Hand-Tied Hair Extentions

The Basics

Hand-tied extensions are made up of wefts, or lightweight pieces of all-natural, premium-quality human hair that can be customized using both color and placement. There are minimal points of contact and zero glue, tape, or fusion involved. This means less damage and simpler removal—removing hand-tied extensions only takes about five minutes.

Natural Beaded Rows™ (NBR) is one method of placing hand-tied extensions. NBR has become a trusted and well-known method, and we are NBR-certified. After evaluating both your natural hair and goal hair, we will recommend an extension placement that is best for you.

With NBR, a row of beads and thread (called a track) are placed onto very small sections of your natural hair. The extension hair is then hand-sewn onto the thread of the track. The track and extension hair together are light and designed to be worn comfortably.

If you’re considering extensions, keep your hair shoulder length, and try to avoid cutting it at all before placement.

Maintenance and Care

Every 6-8 weeks, as your natural hair grows, your extensions will need to be moved up and re-colored to match your hair.

Every 6-9 months, the extensions need to be replaced. While the hair is 100% human hair, it’s not receiving nourishment from your scalp and therefore will begin to show some wear and tear.

What to Expect

You can shampoo and condition your hair as usual. You will want to take extra care when brushing and blow-drying hair so as not to snag or extensively pull on the area where your hair and extensions meet. Once your extensions are placed, we’ll provide more detailed care tips (and products) for everyday styling.

You can swim, work out, and style your hair as usual. You can style your hair in braids or ponytails as usual, and I recommend you do it when working out or swimming, but you’ll want to be extra gentle so that the extension hair stays looking its best. Take extra care never to let sunblock or suntan oil touch your extension hair, as this can cause immediate discoloration. If you swim or work out frequently, let any of us know and we can recommend additional care tips.
